THE SHIFT
AI search is how customers find you now
Every day, more people ask ChatGPT and Google AI for recommendations instead of searching the old way — and most local business websites are invisible to them.
393–458
days newer
That’s how much fresher AI-cited content is on average than pages ranking organically in Google. (Ahrefs)
Blocked
= invisible
If GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot are blocked in robots.txt, your site can never be cited — no matter how good the content is.
#1
on Google ≠ visible on AI
ChatGPT and Perplexity don’t check your Google ranking. They pull from directories and review sites Google doesn’t even use.
The Framework
Five signals. One score.
Every check we run rolls up into these five categories — weighted by how much they actually affect whether AI cites you.
Proof
We failed our own audit first
Before we ever showed this tool to anyone else, we ran it on our own site.
Before
- No Organization schema connecting our brand identity
- No FAQPage schema on our own /faq/ page
After
- Organization schema added, with sameAs links to our real profiles
- FAQPage schema added
If an agency built specifically around this problem can miss it, most local business sites don’t stand a chance without checking.
Trust & Methodology
No tricks. Just checks.
No signup
Run as many checks as you need — no account or email required.
No AI-API cost
Every check is deterministic logic, not a ChatGPT/Claude API call. Nothing to game.
Read-only
We only fetch public pages (robots.txt, homepage, FAQ/contact). Nothing on your site is touched.
Nothing stored
Results show in your browser and disappear when you leave. No copy kept.
Rate-limited & safe
Runs through a secured, rate-limited connection built to prevent abuse, not collect data.
Sources cited by name
Every insight links to a named source (Ahrefs, Mark Williams-Cook’s schema experiment) — not “trust us.”
FAQ
Common questions
What does my AI Visibility Score actually mean?
It’s a readiness score — how structurally likely your site is to be crawled, understood, and cited by AI platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity. It’s not a live measurement of whether they’re mentioning you today; it’s what has to be true first before they can.
Does this replace regular SEO or Google rankings?
No. Ranking well on Google is still the foundation — AI platforms often pull from pages that already rank organically, or from directories and review sites. This checks an additional layer: whether AI can actually access and parse what’s there.
Why is Schema Markup only worth 15% of my score?
A published test (Mark Williams-Cook’s schema experiment) found ChatGPT and Perplexity strip schema formatting and just read the plain text inside it. Schema helps Google, but doesn’t add extra weight with AI beyond the text it contains — so we don’t over-score it.
My score is low. What should I fix first?
Start with Crawler Access — it’s weighted highest (30%) because it’s a hard gate. If GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot are blocked in robots.txt, nothing else on the list matters until that’s fixed.
Does a perfect score guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?
No tool can guarantee that — AI answers are non-deterministic and change between sessions. This measures the structural readiness that makes citation possible, not a guaranteed outcome.
How is this different from a regular website grader?
Most graders check Google-era signals — page speed, meta tags, backlinks. This checks the newer AI-specific layer: crawler access for AI bots, entity clarity via sameAs links, and the content freshness patterns AI platforms actually weight.
Do you store or share my results?
No. Everything runs and displays in your browser. Nothing is saved on our end.
How often should I re-check my score?
Whenever you make a fix, or every few months — schema and content freshness both shift over time, so a score from six months ago won’t reflect what’s true now.
